MANCHESTER UNITED are preparing to extend the contracts of six players over the course of the season.
Ashley Young, Juan Mata, Ander Herrera, Luke Shaw, Daley Blind and Sam Johnstone all have deals which expire in 2018 but have an option for an additional year.
And Jose Mourinho claims they will trigger the options to keep them for another season – even if just to stop them leaving on a free transfer.
“Of course it makes a difference,” he said of the additional year option.
“When the club has a one-year option it means they have one more year of contract so nobody is in the last year.
“The only player, two players are Zlatan and Carrick. Two players at the end of the season who is going to sit, analyze what they did and what they want to do.
“All the other players are under the club control until the end of the 2018-19 season. We are speaking about June 19. No player ends his contract.”
Mourinho failed to mention Fellaini, who is out of contract in the summer but does not have an automatic one-year option.
Michael Carrick and Zlatan Ibrahimovic also only have a year left but are unlikely to renew again.
